Let me just start off by saying I'm a big advocate of indoor cats. Why? Because it annoys me when un-neutered outdoor male cats spray on my deck and my door. And it annoys me when cats destroy the wildlife. Case in point — Vegas, the stray cat we've been trying to tame and adopt.
In the last week, she's left us several birds and two baby bunnies.
Today, she caught two baby cardinals. My son rescued them from her, and brought them in the house, in shock and hurt. I used to rehabilitate baby owls, so I knew the drill — put them in a box, put them somewhere dark and quiet for a couple of hours. Eventually, they came out of the shock.
So I now have two fledgling baby cardinals to take care of. One is doing well — very active and chirpy. The other is pretty hurt, but it's eating well. So I'll try to keep them warm and fed (wet cat food fed by straw) through the night, and hope to find a rehabilitator in the morning. I'll take care of them if I have to — but finding the time to feed them every hour is going to be difficult. Not to mention exhausting!
If they make it through the night, I'll post pics. Fingers crossed!

Bless you I’d be at a total loss!
My neighbors, the ones that owned the infamous Clyde, have a new cat, a female who how’s enough I’m thinking she’s not fixed. Luckily my boys are and they’re indoor/outdoor cats but they never bring me uh pressies. Anyway so last night I’m in the zzzzzzzz zone and my son comes in and says, “I let Ham in and that other cat SNUCK IN and I can’t find her.”
I told him to just leave her, we have food, we have litter etc….so, I dunno, 10 minutes, an hour later (I was snoozing), the B***H is in MY ROOM howling her freaking lungs out!
Yeah she went right back out. My cats may come and go but at least they’re fed, in at night, shotted, fixed and taken care of. More than I can say for my neighbors–of course these are the same folks who a) used to let (ok so they didn’t KNOW) clyde stay over for days at a time and b) let their freaking rabbits decimate my yard. They NEVER came to get their rabbits, patch the hole on their side of the fence or, you know, apologize!

You are a sweetheart, Larissa!
I’ve adopted three cats, and they all are indoor cats–same reasons as you. Good luck with the baby cardinals.

LOL, Amie! Don’t you just hate inconsiderate neighbors? Whether it’s their pets, their kids, or just their noise. Grr.
Thanks, azteclady…and bless you for adopting all those cats! When we took the cardinals (both of whom survived the night, but one might not make it through tonight,) to the rehabiliator, we spent 1/2 an hour looking through the ASPCA’s selection of cats, and I wanted to bring them ALL home!

Larissa, I’m the same way–the only reason I haven’t tried to tame further the three feral cats in the woods next to my house is that my mother has threatened never to visit me again if I do

The only thing stopping me from adopting more cats is feeding them all!

Bless your heart, you’re an angel, Larissa.
And I agree about the cats. I’ve had as many as five at one time, and I didn’t let them destroy other people’s property.
And as the owner and supplier of two birdfeeders, it pisses me off no end to go out and find dead birds or feathers because the people down the road don’t care what their cats do.
(Hope the little ones made it!).

LOL @ your mom, Azteclady!
Amie, OMG, I hear you!
Raine, I think the most cats I’ve had as an adult was three…but as a kid, we once had 32 on our farm!

Larissa, perhaps it’s the fact that I live in a smallish house with two large dogs, three cats of various sizes, and a ferret, that bothers her?
