So now that my son can ride a bike, my husband and I went and bought mountain bikes yesterday. We live in such a beautiful area of Virginia, with bike trails and historical sights, that we want to take advantage of all that with some family time and evening rides.
It was funny, though, shopping for the bikes. I grew up during the years when kids didn't wear helmets…or seat belts, for that matter. So buying safety equipment — helmets, gloves, etc., was interesting. And the bike–I haven't been on a bike in YEARS. But the adage, "it's like riding a bike," is true. You never forget. I got on and it was like 20 years hadn't passed. Very cool.
So we spent the evening out riding, and it was fun, but today my butt hurts. BAD. I'll definitely be investing in a comfort saddle. I need WAY more padding than mine provides. Especially if we're going to be doing bumpy trail riding when we go camping.
What about you? Got a bike? Do you have great places to ride where you live?

I’ve been told that there are some nice places to bike, just need to get a new bike first. How’s the weather in your neck of the woods, it’s getting quite warm here. Have a great weekend.

Yep, you need a comfy saddle. I have a cruiser and love it. Haven’t been able to ride lately, but as the kids get bigger we’ll be able to do family rides!

Yeah, I don’t remember bike seats being so uncomfortable when I was a kid!

Ann, it’s starting to get HOT here! The summers in VA make me long for the Pacific Northwest again! :( Enjoy your weekend, too!
Charlene, a comfy saddle is SO important, I’m discovering. The sales guy said the one I have is top of the line…but top of the line for people with no butt bones, I’m guessing. OMG, PAIN. I need lots and lots of padding.
LOL at back in the day, Danette!
Mary, I don’t remember that, either! But then, my bike had one of those long banana seats with TONS of padding. I need to wrap a pillow around my current seat, I think!

I have a beach bum bike. Good on pea gravel and sand.
