One of my pet mice died last night. Hanta (I'd named all my mice after rodent-borne diseases — Hista (histaplasmosis,) Hanta (hantavirus,) and Buboe (bubonic plague.) I'm thinking she died from a combination of obesity and old age. She always struggled with her weight, so I kept her and her sister, Hista, on a diet, but when Hista got sick and began to lose weight (she's skin and bones,) I had to keep lots of food in the cage so she could eat. Hanta got fat, and since she was never one to exercise…well, it just wasn't good for her. But they've both outlived their life expectancy (twice–since I saved them from being lizard food when they were still pink and blind,) and I spoiled them rotten, so all in all, things have been good for them.
Rest in peace, my sweet little rodent.

Thanks ladies. I’m still sad. I love my mice.
Sharon, yes, it was the footmouse! She’s also the one in the pictures on my bestiary pages. She was always the friendliest–and least likely to poop on me!

Oh, {{{{{{Larissa}}}}}}
I am so sorry to hear that. I know you love your meeces to pieces.
It is always hard to lose a pet, no matter what the species.
Feel better soon.

Thank you, Missy! I loved my little girl.
Thank you, Charlene!
Angie, I appreciate that. People so often judge worth on the size and intelligence of a species, and I don’t get that. My mice might not be little rocket scientists, but they knew I was “mommy,” and they trusted me. I love all my little furries!
