I. Am. Exhausted.
And it's not even for a good reason…like I'm out partying or busy writing. Nope. It's because my husband snores. BAD. And it's getting worse. He went for a sleep study not long ago, and was diagnosed with mild narcolepsy.
They apparently didn't notice how he snores loud enough to wake himself up.
He's not the only one he wakes up.
I now sleep with earplugs. I've always had them, but could usually get away with sleeping with just one earplug. I don't like blocking both ears because I'm afraid I won't hear my son, or something crashing in the house, or a serial killer breaking in. But lately I've had to sleep with two earplugs because one isn't cutting it.
I'm about ready to sleep on the couch.
Anyone else have a husband who snores loud enough to wake the neighbors? What do you do? Because I'm thinking that putting a pillow over his face might get me into trouble with the local police…

Yikes!
My ex used to snore terribly. I got an earplug for the television, turned the tv timer to go off in an hour and plugged in to the tv. the sound of the television drowned out the sound of his snoring so I could fall asleep.
Wasn’t perfect, but at least it was a way for me to fall asleep at night.
Thankfully, my current hubby doesn’t snore except when he’s on his back, so he sleeps on his side.
Oy, huh?

To start with…OMG girlfriend!!! Your sale is soooo freakin’ fantastic, and about damned time!! Wooohoooo! So dish, which books were they???? I’m so excited for you!
Okay, when it comes to snoring, August lifted the damned rafters to the point I started sleeping on the couch since I had to work in the morning. He had a sleep study done and has severe sleep apnea…not the kind where you stop breathing, but where you never fall into REM sleep. He got a CPAP machine and both of us are MUCH happier. Granted, if the seal isn’t tight, it’s like sleeping next to Darth Vader
, but I can deal with that.

My husband snores loudly, but I am usually so exhausted it doesn’t keep me awake.

Hubby would probably be willing to arrange a trade. He also sleeps with earplugs in when we’re together.
See? This is the downside of living in the same state. We won’t be doing it until at least 2008.

I could have written your entry! I have a husband and a dog who sleep in my room and both snore like crazy. My DD is now seven, and I’m only now feeling okay about sleeping with one earplug (I thought I was the only one who did that…LOL…) and even then, I’ll usually get so freaked by not being able to hear the serial killer that I yank it out around midnight.
I have no solutions, other than separate rooms (I’ve been eyeballing the spare bedroom the past couple of nights…) but wanted to commiserate because misery loves company.
Good luck!

LOL, you guys! I’m glad I’m not the only one! Well, I’m not glad, because that means you aren’t getting any sleep, either, but hey, we’re sisters in sleep depravation!

My husband used to…it wasn’t THAT loud, but if it woke me up, I’d lie there and get annoyed and not be able to go back to sleep.
He finally stopped when we took gluten out of his diet. Weird, huh? So maybe that’s the answer. Take gluten away from your hubby. No need to tell him, just stop buying bread, pizza, pasta, etc.

My husband used to snore terribly but after his blood pressure came under control he hardly snores anymore. Absolute bliss. My cat snores more than he does.

Nope. He snores occassionally, but pretty lightly, and I just kick him.
With love, of course. With love.

Oh, and are you sure it isn’t sleep apnea, not narcolepsy? I can’t think of how they’d diagnose narcolepsy when he’s TRYING to sleep…

Amy,that’s really interesting. I wonder if the gluten thing might be it…
Karen, that is FUNNY! Not your husband’s blood pressure, but you know, the cat!
Lydia, that’s funny, because I totally kick Bryan, too. And yeah, I was floored by the narcolepsy thing, because although he CAN fall asleep standing up, or within 10 seconds of closing his eyes, he can also stay awake if he needs to. So it’s weird!!!! I’d be willing to bet there’s some sleep apnea going on. They needed more than one night with him!

My husband used to snore so loudly I woke up and thought someone was running the vacuum cleaner. No, it was a jet flying too low (we lived a few miles from the MSP airport at the time). No, it was only DH snoring. He had rhinoplasty and a uvalectomy (sp? — the hangy down thing in his throat) but that didn’t help. Finally he did the sleep study thing and got a CPAP machine. It’s made a world of difference. He used to fall asleep in the middle of stuff all the time — even flipping through TV channels. His thumb would twitch and turn up the volume, or turn the channel. Don’t even ask about long-distance driving!! See if your DH can get a CPAP machine. Some people complain because of the head-straps and stuff, but DH won’t sleep without one now, and neither will I. For him, that is.
