Most Disappointing Movie. Ever.
After months and months of drooly anticipation, I finally got to see the movie I've wanted to see for, well, months.
Trembling with anticipation, I popped corn, popped a beer, and snuggled up under a blanket. I couldn't wait. I love fairy tales. I adored Politically Correct, the Ultimate Storybook. I gobbled up Grimm's Grimmest (and traumatized my son at the same time–bonus!)
And now, there's a movie starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger (yum!) called The Brothers Grimm. How cool! (Yeah, notice how I didn't link to it? Because it's not worth the effort.)
Needless to say, I was disappointed. Majorly.
Heath Ledger's character ended up being a wussy, sniveling little twit. The story was, at times, hard to follow in that the supporting characters' actions often didn't make sense. I'll admit that having the brothers be con artists was a nice twist, but other than that? Ick.
But I think what truly ruined the movie for me was the animal cruelty in scenes meant to be humorous. I dunno. Call me crazy, but when live horses are set on fire and kittens are splattered on rotating blades, I tend to not laugh. And the fact that the villian who performed all of the cruel acts was supposed to be sympathetic at the end was idiotic. I was absolutely NOT sympathetic toward him.
This wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but it was the most disappointing. It had SO much potential. The dark, grim side of the Grimm tales could have been spectacular. The actors were wasted on The Brothers Grimm.
But on the plus side, Matt Damon looked better than he usually does.
What has been the most disappointing movie you've ever seen? You know, one you waited for and saw at the very first chance you had?
