Well, we're really down to the wire now. I know I've said I hate moving, but it isn't just the actual move — it's saying goodbye to friends. Yes, I'll see them again, but long distance makes it harder.
So Wednesday and Thursday I got to hang out with my friend, Karen, who, if you've read my bio, is the reason I'm writing romance in the first place. And I'm the reason she's a Trekkie. *g* Saying goodbye to her was hard, but we've been friends for 19 years and have gone through several moves over the years (she's married to the military too,) so really, we're used to this.
Friday I went to lunch with Michelle Willingham, Ann Martin, and Mechele Armstrong. Michelle and I have been dinner buddies since I moved here three years ago, and she's just awesome. I'm SO going to miss our time together. In this business, when you find someone you click with and trust, you treasure them. (She also brought me candy bars — my favorite ones, and I ate them in two days…)
I met Ann when she came to my very first book signing, and she's been a wonderful lunch buddy and book store haunter. :) We had fun being roomies at RT too! She's an extremely generous person, and I'll miss her. (Ooh, and she brought me a Burger Kind Star Trek glass!!!! OMG, I was so excited…)
Mechele…unfortunately, I met her fairly late in my time here, but she's such a nice person! I just love her and wish we could have seen more of each other.
Then last night my longtime friends, Warren and Karen, and their daughter Lauren, came up for a barbecue. We've been friends since we all lived in Astoria, Oregon, which was 13 years ago. Karen and I are a bit like Lucy and Ethel (you should have seen us on our trip to England!) and it's been so nice to finally have been close enough again that we could spend time together. They'll be transferring in two years, and so will we, so you never know — the Coast Guard might stick us together again.
So anyway, goodbye sucks. But at least I know that these are people I WILL see again, either because they are practically family, or because they are friends and colleagues who will be attending the same conferences I will.
Most excellent. :)
Okay, off to do more move stuff! Happy Monday!

Hey Larissa:
Goodbyes are so tough. I got a little misty in the eyes reading your post, it is so sweet.
I hope your move progresses without a hitch and will look forward to news when you are settled in your new digs.
Happy Monday and all the best to you. :)

Hi Larissa,
Good-byes are never nice. My heart goes out to you… even as I read your post. Sounds like you were (and still are) surrounded by some awesome friends. But I am glad that you share the outlook that you will see them again. I hope the move goes well for you and I wish you the best!
The one good thing about moving… is “ROAD TRIP” to see friends!!!
Hope you have a wonderful Monday!
Oh… and I am exicted to report that I finally got my grubby little fingers on the first Demonic series book… So now I can finally start reading!!! I was so excited to find it… It was just sitting there on the shelf waiting just for me!!!
((((Larissa))))
Moving is hard… but then there are all those new beginnings to look forward to–like the shiny blank pages in a new journal.
Take care of yourself and your family!
Oh, Larissa~~I’m sad for you leaving your friends. But what an amazing thing the internet is, and you can stay close to people so much easier now, almost like they’re right there down the street. I hope your move goes smoothly and take care!!
Big Hugs~~
Aww, but you’ll make new ones! :)
Hope it all goes well!
Aw, Larissa. It’s always hard to leave good friends behind.
Have a safe (and hopefully uneventful) move!
xoxo
That’s the one lousy part of being a military family – leaving old friends. But the one great part is your current friends will still be there and you get the opportunity to add new ones to the group. Good luck!!
I will miss you!!! But we’ll see each other at RWA. Wish you were going this year!
In the meantime, keep writing those great books! Thanks for being such a great friend!
Ugh I so know what you mean. There is no such thing as a beautiful goodbye. But true friendship lasts forever so hopefully you’ll see them again soon and you wont really feel like you’ve moved. Plus, there’s skype now, so you can talk to them all the time. You can even have lunch in front of the computer as they do the same =P
I hope everything goes well =) Good Luck.
Yup, RT next year, round two of the nearsighted leading the nearsighted.
I have your email address, and access to your facebook page, and I’m not afraid to use either of them.
I’ll miss you, but at least your not in Alaska, and there is an airport relatively close.
Good luck with the move Larissa. Hope everything goes smoothly.
I’ve done a few military moves and my only advice is be as organized as possible and try to enjoy the experience of a new duty station.
