Recovering

Well, the post-RWA exhaustion is starting to wear off, and I still have SO much to do. I haven't unpacked, haven't put away the 50 pounds of books and goodies I brought home, haven't done laundry.

But I DID write. Yes, thanks to the 70 days of sweat, I had to write. Mainly I worked on sketching out a scene from the third Croft book, since it's the project that is due at the end of the challenge. Steph worked on the Croft novella that's due in two weeks.

The novella has been…a challenge.

For some reason, the novels just flow for us. We do tend to hit a snag once or twice per book, but we seem to be hitting snags at every turn with the novella. For the longest time, it just didn't want to come together. I think we've finally hit our stride with it though, so with any luck, it'll flow well from here on out.

It was funny, because at the conference, we had our very first Sydney signing (YAY!) and the question everyone asked was, "How do you write together?"

The answer isn't an easy one, mainly because it's so hard to explain. Unfortunately, people aren't satisfied with, "We just do." But that's the honest answer. Sure, we can explain the technicalities…who writes what, how we divide the work, etc., but explaining the PROCESS is next to impossible–and which is why when people say we should do a workshop, we freeze up like seized engines.

We do toss ideas back and forth, and when we hit snags, we chat, but for the most part, I write a scene, pass it to her, and she builds from it. She writes a scene, passes it to me, and I build from it.

Last night, she whipped up a rough scene, showed it to me, and now ideas for the scene to follow are churning in my mind. We also went over some character names, though the hero and heroine have been named for some time. (She picks hero names, I name the heroines.)

So today I need to write up a novella scene and maybe, just maybe get some unpacking done. I have more conference pictures to share, but mainly they'll go up on the new Sydney website, which we hope to launch this week. I do, however, have a really fun one of Steph to plaster on my blog, but I'll wait until she does something to deserve it.
Hope y'all are getting lots of writing done!

Oooh, Ann, Steph and I did that with Riding The Storm! We’d originally written it as a novella and had to turn it into a novel. It was a challenge, for sure!

    HelenKay…maybe we’d LIKE the violence. We’re sick that way… *g*

  6. Yay on getting back to writing! Yeah, some stories are easier to write than others, but sometimes it helps to have someone to talk about it. :)

Very impressive to dive into writing right after conference. I’m usually in a coma for about a week.

Tempest, it definitely helps to have someone to talk to about it! Working through the Sydney stuff is so wonderful!

Jo, I think I AM in a coma!
